Otto Maidi is a South African bass-Baritone opera /musical singer and performer.
Otto was a chorus member of both the Pretoria State Theatre Opera Chorus and Pro Musica Opera Chorus.
His debut solo role was in both William Kentridge's musicals "Zeno @ 4 am" & "Confessions of Zeno" where he toured and performed in the US and Europe.
To name a least Maidi performed the following opera roles: Sacristan in Puccini's Tosca, Angelotti in Puccini's Tosca, Bonzo in Puccini's Madam Butterfly, Colline in Puccini's La Boheme, Peter in Humperdinck's Hansel & Gretel, Grown in Gershwin's Porgy & Bess, Porgy in Porgy & Bess, Rev.Olin Blitch in Floyd's Sussanah, Banco in Verdi's Macbeth, Ramphis in Verdi's Aida, Vodnick in Dvorak's Rusalka, Dr Dulcamara in Donizetti's L'Elisir 'd Amore, King Dinizulu in Mzilikazi 's Princess Magogo, Columbus in Ndodana-Breen's Winnie the Opera, Titurel in Wagner's Parsifal, Colas in Mozart's Bastien & Bastienne, Minister Blade Ndzimande in Aubrey Sekhabi's Freedom The Musical and a highly acclaimed Joe in Kern's Show Boat. He recently sang and performed Mephistopheles in Charles Gonoud's Faust.
In concerts, Otto sang with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, The Turtle Greek Orchestra(USA), Meadows Symphony Orchestra(USA), Kwa-Zulu Natal Philamornic, Pretoria Philamornic Orchestra and the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
Oratorios include Verdi's Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Brahm's Requiem, Gounod's Messe Sollenelle, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Muller's Cantata Rewind, Ndodana-Breen 's Credo, Beethoven Symphony.9 and Haydn's Creation.
Otto studied at the Pretoria Technikon Opera School under Piere du Toit and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas under Prof. Barbara Hill-More.
